Santiago de la Ribera's aeronautical promenade: a museum made to touch

Aircraft history in Santiago de la Ribera is not locked inside a hangar. The Museo Aeronáutico Tiflológico, usually shortened to MAT, runs along Paseo Colón as a sequence of tactile models, themed benches and accessible interpretation. The lagoon, old summer villas and air-academy boundary remain visible around it.

Why it matters

The route begins with aircraft connected to the naval air base founded in 1920 and the Academia General del Aire established in 1943. Models represent the Dornier Wal, training aircraft such as the T-34 Mentor, T-6 Texan, C-101 and later types. Treat the kilometre-and-a-half waterfront as a walk rather than a room-by-room museum. Start near the academy end, compare changing aircraft forms, then keep going past balneario platforms, the yacht club and surviving villas. The academy itself is working military education infrastructure and is not routinely open, so the public promenade is the dependable view.
